Masala Oats vs Instant Noodles: 3 Minutes, Two Very Different Bowls

Both are ready in three minutes. Both are chatpata. Only one is made of maida. An honest side-by-side of Pakistan's two favourite quick bowls.

It is 11pm. You are hungry. The water is already boiling — and the question is only what goes into it.

For most of Pakistan, the answer has been the same for thirty years: instant noodles. Three minutes, chatpata, done. We are not here to lecture anyone about that. We are here to point out that the same three minutes can now produce a very different bowl — and let you compare the two honestly.

What are instant noodles made of?

Read the packet: refined wheat flour — maida — usually fried in palm oil before packing, plus a seasoning sachet whose ingredient list runs a paragraph long. That is not a scandal; it is just what the product is. Maida is wheat with the bran and germ stripped away — quick to cook, quick to digest, quick to leave you hungry again.

What is masala oats made of?

Our Masala Oats contains five things, and we can name all of them: whole rolled oats, real halal chicken seasoning, sun-dried carrots, sun-dried cabbage, and sun-dried green onions. No maida. No frying. No MSG, no artificial colour or flavour. The oats are a beta-glucan wholegrain — roughly 10g of fibre and 13g of protein per 100g — which is why the bowl stays with you instead of wearing off in an hour.

The honest side-by-side

  • Time: Instant noodles — 3 minutes. Masala oats — 3 minutes. A tie.
  • Base: Fried maida vs whole rolled oats.
  • Ingredient list: A paragraph of codes vs five named foods.
  • Flavour: Chatpata vs chatpata — ours comes from real chicken masala and vegetables, not a flavour sachet.
  • Fullness: Maida digests fast and leaves early; wholegrain fibre stays for hours.
  • Price per bowl: Noodles win on price — we will not pretend otherwise. A bowl of our masala oats costs roughly what a cup of decent chai does. What you are paying for is the label you can read.

How to make it

  1. Add 3–4 heaped tablespoons of masala oats to a pan or bowl.
  2. Pour in hot water until just covered.
  3. Cook or steep for 3 minutes, stirring once. Thick ya soupy — paani aap ke haath mein hai.

That is the entire recipe. The same ritual you already know — different jar.

Frequently asked questions

Is masala oats healthier than instant noodles?

We will say only what the labels say: ours is a wholegrain with named ingredients and no MSG or artificial flavour; instant noodles are fried maida with a seasoning sachet. Read both packets and decide — that comparison is the whole argument, and it does not need our help.

Does it taste like noodles?

No — it tastes like chatpata chicken oats: closer to a khichdi or savoury dalia than to noodles. Customers who come for the noodle replacement stay for the bowl itself.

Is it vegetarian?

No. It contains real halal chicken seasoning — that is where the depth of flavour comes from.

Can children eat it?

It is a natural food enjoyed by all ages, and a three-minute answer to the school-evening hunger hour. For specific dietary concerns, speak to your doctor.

What sizes does it come in?

Small (300g), Medium (600g) and Extra Large (900g) — the bigger the jar, the bigger the saving. See Masala Oats for current prices, Cash on Delivery across Pakistan.
